Warriors² shoot down the Bombers

On Saturday 20th June 2026 our Warriors² team welcomed Beighton Bombers to Planet Ice for this IHSC Cup fixture.

This was our second teams eighth fixture in the IHSC Cup and their first of the season against teh Beighton Bombers who are a Sheffield based team.

The team narrowly lost their previous game 3-5 last weekend against the Sheffioedl Blazers and were highly motivated to pick up maximum points from this fixture.

The evening also marked an emotional occasion for the Warriors as Mo Lin pulled on the #17 jersey for the final time before returning to Hong Kong.

Dressed players

Joe Quinn (NM), Janis Gutmanis, Luke Cadman, Matt Jubb, Mo Lin, Andrew Everson, Arek Koziel, David Gorog, James Way, Matt Bolan, Sarah Djuric, Simon Davis, Chris Hamilton, Corey Clough-Howard, Ivans Lebedjoks, Jamie Thurston, Stewart Nelson, Tim Lyndon-Belt, Robert Kalnins.

1st period

The Warriors made an excellent start and opened the scoring at 7:48.

Mo Lin found the net after good work from Jamie Thurston and Matt Jubb, giving the Warriors a deserved 1–0 lead.

The Bombers responded well and levelled the scores at 9:40, ensuring the game remained finely balanced.

The Warriors, however, refused to let the momentum slip. At 13:12, Stew Nelson restored the Warriors’ advantage with a well-taken finish to make it 2–1.

It proved to be the final goal of the evening, although there was still plenty of hockey left to play.

Warriors 2-1 Bombers

2nd period

With the early scoring complete, the contest developed into a much tighter defensive battle.

Both teams had chances to add to the score-line, but solid defensive play and good goal-tending at either end kept the game unchanged.

The Warriors remained disciplined in their own zone and limited the Bombers to very few clear-cut opportunities despite facing sustained pressure at times.

Warriors 2-1 Bombers

3rd period

The final period became an attritional affair as the Warriors looked to protect their slender one-goal advantage.

The Warriors were assessed three late minor penalties for tripping, roughing, and unsportsmanlike conduct, forcing them to spend valuable time killing penalties during the closing stages.

Earlier in the game, the Warriors had also been penalised for delay of game, while the Bombers received a cross-checking minor in the third period.

Despite finishing the game under considerable pressure, the Warriors defended resolutely and held firm to preserve their 2–1 lead.

Netminder Joe Quinn produced a number of important saves, while the defensive unit repeatedly blocked shooting lanes and cleared danger to frustrate the Bombers.

Final score:

Warriors 2-1 Bombers

Summary

In his final appearance before returning to Hong Kong, Mo Lin produced a performance befitting the occasion. Opening the scoring with a well-taken goal, he was influential at both ends of the ice throughout the evening and deservedly collected the Man of the Match award.

Mo has been a valued member of the Warriors since joining us in 2020 and everyone wishes him the very best as he begins his next chapter back home.
