Warriors² blitzed by the Bombers

On Saturday 26th July 2026 our Warriors² team travelled to Ice Sheffield to take on the Bombers for this IHSC Cup Development fixture.

This was Warriors²’s tenth and final fixture in the IHSC Cup and the return meeting with the Beighton Bombers after a narrow 2-1 victory in Leeds on 20th June 2026.

Dressed players

Ben Briggs (NM), Howard Barwick (C), Andrew Everson, Cain Turner, Chris Hamilton, Arek Koziel, Corey Clough-Howard, Luke Cadman, Janis Gutmanis, Rhys Shears, Sarah Djuric, Simon Davis, Dexter Duffy-Howard, Ivans Lebedjoks, Stew Nelson, Matt Jubb, Robert Kalnins.

1st period

The Warriors couldn’t have asked for a better opening, taking the lead just 3:16 into the first period.

A well-worked move saw the visitors break the deadlock with Matt Jubb converting from Howard Barwick and Rhys Shears assists.

However, the Bombers responded strongly, scoring two quick-fire goals at 18:18 and 18:48 to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage as the game approached the interval.

Conceding two goals in the closing stages of the period were a huge blow to the team but they now had the first intermission to regroup.

Bombers 2-1 Warriors

2nd period

The second period proved decisive. The Bombers controlled much of the play and capitalised on their opportunities, adding three unanswered goals at 31:21, 39:13 and 39:49 to stretch their lead to 5-1.

Despite continuing to battle and creating spells of pressure, the Warriors found it difficult to break through an organised Bombers defence.

Bombers 5-1 Warriors

3rd period

The Warriors continued to work hard in the third period, but the home side maintained their intensity and added a further goal soon after the re-start, timed at 42:29.

At 6-1 there was no way back for the Warriors, but, they refused to give up and were doggedly playing for pride.

As a result of their grit and determination, despite there being over 17 minutes left to play, they only conceded one further goal, at 56:03, which rounded off the scoring at 7-1.

Final score:

Bombers 7-1 Warriors

Points scorers :

Matt Jubb 1+0

Howard Barwick 0+1

Rhys Shears 0+1

There was very little to separate the teams early on, with the Warriors showing plenty of commitment and taking the game to the Bombers in the opening minutes.

Ultimately, however, Beighton’s finishing and ability to convert momentum into goals proved the difference.

With this having been their last game of their 2025-26 IHSC Cup campaign, coach Niks Kamaldins and the Warriors² players will look to take the positives from this game into the new season.

Top 5 points scorers: 2025-26 season

1) Howard Barwick 4+4

2) Stew Nelson 3+4

3) Rhys Shears 4+2

4) Chris Hamilton 3+3

Rather fittingly, Team Captain, Howard Barwick lead the way with the points across the season and I’m sure he and the rest of the team will now look forward to welcoming their newest recruits for next season - Jonjo Marshall and Phil Pearce, who have been moved up to our second team after an impressive season with our development team.
