Warriors² in road trip defeat against Knights

On Saturday 18th July 2026 our Warriors² team travelled to Hull to take on the Knights for this IHSC Cup Development fixture.

This was the first of two successive days in Hull for Leeds Warriors, as Warriors² travelled east to take on the Hull Knights B team on Saturday afternoon, with the club's first team following 24 hours later.

This was Warriors²’s ninth and penultimate fixture in the IHSC Cup, and the return meeting with the Hull Knights after a 9–6 victory in Leeds on 28th March 2026.

The Warriors also handed a debut to Robert Kalnins. Welcome aboard, Robert!

1st period

The opening exchanges suggested this would be a close game with both teams having opportunities to make the breakthrough. But by the half-way point in the period, the hosts were starting to assert dominance and this lead to the Knights opening the scoring at 12:29.

The Warriors were still very much in this game and it had looked like the score-line would remain at 1-0 going into the first intermission, but unfortunately the Knights doubled their advantage with less than a minute remaining in the opening period.

It would now be 2-0 Knights going into the first break which was a real blow for the Warriors, as they had been growing into the game.

Knights 2-0 Warriors

2nd period

The Knights continued their momentum early in the second period, extending the scoreline to 3-0 at 25:03.

However, the Warriors responded almost immediately - just over a minute later, Stewart Nelson got Leeds on the scoreboard, finishing well at 26:36 after good work from Chris Hamilton - cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Unfortunately for the visitors, the Knights once again found an answer, restoring their three-goal cushion at 29:38 to head into the final period leading 4-1.

Knights 4-1 Warriors

3rd period

Whilst a Knights victory now seemed inevitable, to their credit, the Warriors refused to let the game drift away.

Midway through the third period, Chris Hamilton produced a determined solo effort, scoring unassisted at 44:40 to reduce the deficit to 4-2.

This gave the Warriors renewed hope of mounting a come-back.

But with the clock running down and the Warriors taking more chances to try and close the gap further, the Knights capitalised - scoring at 52:49 to secure a 5-2 victory.

Final score:

Knights 5-2 Warriors

While the result ultimately went the Knights' way, the Warriors showed plenty of character throughout the contest, responding on both occasions where they fell three goals behind.
