Warriors² in road trip defeat in Telford

On Sunday 24th May 2026 our Warriors² team travelled to Telford to take on the Spartans for this IHSC Cup fixture.


This was Warriors² sixth fixture in the IHSC Cup and the return fixture against the Telford Spartans - having been narrowly beaten 5-8 in Leeds on 11th April.

Joe Quinn was between the pipes for this one.

1st period

The opening period was closely contested, with the Warriors defending well and limiting the Spartans’ opportunities for much of the frame.

However, Telford eventually found the breakthrough at 16:48, taking a 1–0 lead into the first intermission.

Despite trailing, the Warriors had worked hard defensively and remained firmly in the game heading into the second period.

2nd period

The Spartans started the middle frame strongly and quickly extended their advantage.

Goals at 21:34 and 22:42 gave Telford a 3–0 lead, putting the Warriors under pressure early in the period.

To the Warriors’ credit, the response was immediate.

Just over 30 seconds later, at 23:15, Corey Clough-Howard got the Warriors on the board, pulling the score back to 3–1 and giving the team renewed energy.

The period also saw the Warriors assessed a tripping penalty at 26:31, but the team battled hard to prevent the Spartans from extending their lead further before the break.

The second period ended 2–1 to Telford, with the overall score sitting at 3–1 heading into the final frame.

3rd period

The Warriors continued to compete hard throughout the third period and remained within striking distance for much of the frame.

Spartans received an interference penalty at 37:19, offering the Warriors an opportunity to build momentum, but the Spartans defended well and protected their lead.

The game remained competitive until late in the period, when Telford finally pulled away with three late goals.

The Spartans scored at:

  • 50:56

  • 58:28

Those late strikes stretched the score-line and ultimately sealed a 6–1 victory for the home side.

The Player of the Game for the Warriors as selected by the Spartans, went to netminder Joe Quinn - and the Captain’s helmet went to Sam Stokes. Well played lads.


A tough road test against Telford Spartans, eventually falling to a 6–1 defeat despite remaining competitive for large spells of the game.

The Warriors stayed within touching distance through the opening two periods before the Spartans pulled away late in the third with a quick burst of goals.
