Warriors 3 in close encounter with Renegades
On Sunday 6th April 2025, our development squad travelled north west to play the Blackburn Renegades in a challenge game.
The Warriors were looking for revenge after suffering an 8-4 home defeat to the Renegades in December of last year. After some strong performances in the months since, the Leeds team were feeling confident they could come away with a big win.
Warriors 2 netminder Ben Briggs stepped in due to the team’s regular goalies being unavailable.
Dressed players:
Ben Briggs (NM), Andis Jansons, Ashleigh Farmer, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker, Jared Weldon, Jonjo Marshall, Josh Moss, Paul Eaglestone, Phil Bradley, Phil Pearce, Sam Stokes, Simon Hill, Tomasz Molenda, Heather McCarten, Freddy Monk, and Zach Huntley.
1st period
The game started evenly with both teams feeling each other out somewhat. After a few early chances at both ends and some solid saves from netminder Briggs, it was the Renegades who struck first at 5:36. As the period wore on, the Warriors started to find their game and had a number of good opportunities to level things up. With under two minutes to go in the period, they were rewarded as Jonjo Marshall slotted home a pass from Tomasz Molenda to take the teams into the break all square.
Ice Wolves 1 Warriors 1
2nd period
Leeds could sense that they were the better team, and they had a real chance to come out on top on this game. While the teams traded more opportunities, the Warriors were looking the most likely to take the lead, which they did at the 28:50 mark. Again it was Marshall and Molenda combining, this time Molenda finishing from a Marshall assist. There was no further scoring in the period.
Ice Wolves 1 Warriors 2
3rd period
Entering the final frame with a lead and feeling confident, Leeds were again on top, coming close to extending their lead on a number of occasions, and keeping the Renegades’ offence at bay. Finally, at 52:33, the Warriors dominance paid off as Molenda grabbed his second of the game, with an assist from Craig Baker. Leeds were able to see the rest of the period reasonably comfortably to seal a well deserved win.
