Ice Wolves complete double over Warriors³

On Saturday 4th July 2026, our development team welcomed the Bradford Ice Wolves to Planet Ice, Leeds for the return BOTB Cup fixture.

This was our Warriors³ team’s 10th fixture in the Bottom of the Barrel (BOTB) Cup with only 2 more cup fixtures left to play in the season.

These sides last met in January in Bradford, where the Warriors pushed the Ice Wolves all the way to a shoot-out after battling to a 3-3 draw.

Although the Ice Wolves eventually claimed the extra point, it was an impressive performance from the Warriors against one of the cup's strongest development teams.

With the return fixture on home ice, the Warriors were hopeful that home advantage could help swing the result in their favour.

Dressed players:

Kieran High (NM), Ash Davies, Charlie Tang, Andy Palfreyman, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker,, Gary Clough, Jake Crabtree, Phil Pearce, Heather McCarten, Paul Eaglestone, Jonjo Marshall, Joe Quinn, Josh Moss, Phil Bradley and Zach Huntley.

1st period:

The visitors made a blistering start, opening the scoring just 3:24 into the contest before doubling their advantage at 8:41 to put the Warriors firmly on the back foot.

The Warriors were handed an opportunity to get themselves back into the game when they were awarded a power-play mid-way through the period.

However, it was Bradford who struck next, scoring a short-handed goal at 12:53 to extend their lead to 3-0.

To their credit, the Warriors responded immediately. Just one minute later, Phil Pearce picked up the puck in his own zone and powered up the ice to fire home a power-play goal at 13:53, ensuring the Warriors capitalised on the remainder of the man advantage and reducing the deficit to 3-1.

What a goal!

Unfortunately, the Ice Wolves had the final say of the opening period, restoring their three-goal cushion with a goal at 16:57 to head into the first intermission leading 4-1.

Warriors 1-4 Ice Wolves

2nd period:

The second period was a much tighter affair, with the Warriors limiting the Ice Wolves’ opportunities far more effectively. Despite the improved defensive performance, the Ice Wolves managed to add just one further goal at 37:54, taking a 5-1 advantage into the final period.

Warriors 1-5 Ice Wolves

3rd period:

Rather than allowing the game to drift away, the Warriors produced an excellent final twenty minutes and were rewarded for their persistence.

While killing a penalty, Jonjo Marshall turned defence into attack - after a face-off in the Warriors zone, the puck broke free near the blue line where Josh Moss was able swipe the puck into the path of Marshall - who took control of the puck, raced up the ice and lashed home the Warriors 2nd goal.

Another coast-to-coast goal for the Warriors! This time it was short-handed. Timed at 49:37.

That proved to be the only goal of the third period, meaning the Warriors finished the game by winning the final frame 1-0.

Although the opening period ultimately decided the outcome, the Warriors showed resilience by matching the Ice Wolves for the remainder of the contest and ending the evening on a positive note.

Final score:

Warriors 2-5 Ice Wolves

Points scorers:

Jonjo Marshall 1+0

Phil Pearce 1+0

Josh Moss 0+1

Joe Quinn

Player of the game

Kieran High

Captain’s POTG

Player of the Game, as selected by the Ice Wolves, went to Joe Quinn, while the Captain’s Helmet went to netminder Kieran High.

Kieran had a very busy night as he was on the receiving end of 48 shots on goal! He played out of his skin to keep the Warriors in this game.

Well done to both of you.

The score-line reflected Bradford’s ruthless opening period, but the Warriors deserve credit for their response.

After falling 4-1 behind in the first twenty minutes, they tightened up defensively, conceded just once over the final forty minutes, and won the third period with a well-worked short-handed goal - a great display of character that they can take into future fixtures.
