Warriors³ edged out in shoot-out defeat
On Saturday 9th May 2026, our development team welcomed their namesakes to Planet Ice, Leeds for a BOTB Cup fixture.
This was our Warriors³ team’s 7th game in the Bottom of the Barrel (BOTB) Cup and the return fixture against Peterborough Warriors - having suffered a 5-0 defeat in Cambridgeshire in November 2025.
Still searching for their first victory of the campaign, they knew it would be a tough challenge against a strong Peterborough team.
Dressed players:
Kieran High (NM), Ash Davies, Brendan Hullah, Charlie Tang, Craig Baker, Andy Palfreyman, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker, Freddy Monk, Gary Clough, Phil Pearce, Heather McCarten, Paul Eaglestone, Jake Croft, Sam Crossland Josh Moss and Zach Huntley.
1st period:
Leeds made a bright start and opened the scoring at 09:53. A well-worked move saw Josh Moss find the net, assisted by Phil Pearce, giving Leeds an early 1–0 lead.
The home side doubled their lead at 16:38, when Ash Davies scored from Jonjo Marshall and Phil Pearce assists - extending the lead to 2–0.
Leeds continued to create chances throughout the period while remaining disciplined defensively, limiting Peterborough’s opportunities and carrying their advantage into the first intermission.
Leeds 2-0 Peterborough
2nd period:
Leeds were in a really strong position in the game after a fantastic first period performance but Peterborough gradually began to establish themselves offensively.
Under offensive pressure, Leeds were defending as best they could but picked up an interference penalty at 25:03 to put them on the back foot.
Thankfully, they were able to kill off the penalty but this may have sapped their energy. With the visitors grinding Leeds down, this resulted in Peterborough scoring and reducing the deficit to 2–1 (31:37).
But despite the visitors’ pressure, Leeds maintained their one-goal lead heading into the final period.
Leeds 2-1 Peterborough
3rd period:
If Leeds could just hold on for the final period, they would get their first win of the season.
But the visitors continued to push hard and things became desperate defensively.
Leeds eventually picked up a hooking penalty at 41:37 which put Peterborough back on the power-play. Again, the hosts dug deep and managed to kill this off.
But legs were getting tired as we approached the final 10 minutes of the game. Could Leeds hold on for victory or would Peterborough find a way through?
Unfortunately for our guys, the visitors found the equalising goal late in regulation. At 54:44, Peterborough tied the game at 2–2.
Heart-break for Leeds - euphoria for Peterborough.
With only 5 minutes remaining, the game was tense - no-one wanted to make a mistake that would cause their team to lose the game in the dying moments.
Ultimately, neither side could find the decisive goal before the buzzer, sending the game to a shoot-out.
Final score:
Leeds 2-2 Peterborough
Shoot-out:
This was a 3-shot penalty shoot-out which would go to sudden-death in the event of a tie.
Leeds selected their 3 shooters : Freddy Monk, Charlie Tang and Jonjo Marshall.
Both teams missed their opening attempt to score - but in the second round, both teams scored.
With only one more shooter each, tension was high.
Unfortunately, Leeds could not convert their 3rd shot, but the visitors could - meaning Peterborough ultimately claimed the shoot-out victory and the extra point.
What a game!

Player of the Game, as selected by Peterborough, went to our netminder, Kieran High, while the Captain’s Helmet went to Jonjo Marshall. Well played lads. Also, shout out to defence-man Phil Pearce who picked up assists on both goals.
Despite the loss, the team put in a really strong performance and looked in control after building a two-goal lead. But hats off to Peterborough - they never gave up and capitalised on late pressure to force the game to a shoot-out.
Our development team’s next game is in the BOTB Cup and on home ice again. See details below:
