Warriors Dev shut-out by Peterborough
On Saturday 8th November 2025, our development team travelled to Peterborough for their first BOTB Cup game.
Our Warriors 3 side began their Bottom of the Barrel Cup (BOTB) campaign with a road trip to Peterborough to face their namesakes. The two teams are no strangers to each other — they last met in December 2024, when our team fell 4–1 away in Peterborough, and again in July this year, when the visitors from Peterborough left Leeds with a 6–1 win.
Dressed players:
Kieran High (NM), Adam Szabo, Brendan Hullah, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker, Dale Bedford, Dean Cadman, Gary Clough, Heather McCarten, Josh Moss, Paul Eaglestone, Philip Bradley, Phil Pearce and Stella Giwisser.
Game Summary:
At the start of this contest, Peterborough came out strong, controlling possession early. The Leeds defence had to hold strong for long periods, but eventually buckled on 13:26 when the hosts opened the scoring. 1-0 Peterborough.
At 14:22, Leeds’ Paul Eaglestone picked up a minor penalty for tripping - meaning the team were called upon to kill the hosts’ powerplay. Thankfully, they duly did - which meant the team went into the first interval at only 1-0 down and with all to play for.
But Leeds’ optimism was soon dashed, as exactly one minute after the restart, Peterborough doubled their lead to 2-0. This was a real blow to our guys.
With 7 minutes having elapsed in the second period, the hosts took a minor penalty for high sticks which gave Leeds’ their best opportunity of the night - a powerplay. But unfortunately, the team couldn’t capitalise, as the home penalty-kill stood firm.
With 32 minutes now on the clock, Peterborough took another minor penalty - this time for tripping, which gave our guys another opportunity to get a foot-hold in the game. But again, the hosts’ defence held out as Leeds again failed to make the advantage count.
The second period drew to a close with the score remaining at 2-0. With such a slender lead, it was still anyone’s game going into the final period. Leeds would probably need an early goal to give themselves a chance but it was entirely possible.
But before the final period could start, Leeds’ netminder Kieran High had to drop out of the game due to a concussion he had picked up the night before, during a Warriors 1 training session. Without a back-up goalie, Leeds turned to Peterborough’s coach and back-up development netminder, Sandis Miljons, to step in for the final period.
Barely six minutes into the final period, Leeds’ faint hopes of a revival were crushed as the hosts struck twice in devastating fashion — at 46:18 for 3–0 and again at 49:18 for 4–0 — sealing the result beyond doubt. Those few minutes proved ruinous for Leeds.
With frustration starting to show in the Leeds camp, Craig Baker took a penalty for elbowing and a Peterborough player also took a minor penalty for cross checking (52:30).
But in the end, Leeds ran out of steam in the final period as Peterborough ran away with it.
There was, however, still time for one more goal as the hosts truly sealed the win with their fifth of the night at 55:38.
Final score:
Peterborough 5-0 Leeds
It was a decisive 5–0 victory for Peterborough in the end, but, up until the final period our guys were still in with a shout.
Our Leeds team competed hard but just couldn’t match Peterborough’s cohesion or finishing touch. In fairness, based on previous results between the two teams, we were the underdogs going into this game. Good luck to Peterborough with their BOTB campaign this season.
Kieran High
Player of the game
Dale Bedford
Captain’s player of the game
Player of the Game, as selected by Peterborough, went to netminder, Kieran High.
Despite having to quit the game after two periods, Kieran was outstanding and kept Leeds in the contest up until that point.
The Captain’s Helmet went to Dale Bedford - Dale was a late addition to the roster for this one as the team was short benched. Having only just come back from a broken hand he wanted to help the team out and everyone is grateful for this show of commitment. Well played guys!
There isn’t long to wait for Warriors 3’s next game as it’s less than 2 weeks away - and the team are back on home ice! See details below:
