Game summary
Leeds Warriors 2 put in a strong shift on the road but narrowly missed out on taking points against the Blackburn Buccaneers in this closely fought IHSC group stage clash.
After conceding early in the first period, Leeds rallied in the second. With 26:15 on the clock, a well-placed finish from Howard Barwick — set up by a smart feed from Adam Tomlinson — brought the Warriors level at 1-1.
But the Buccaneers responded quickly. Only 19 seconds later, the hosts re-took the lead at 2-1.
Undeterred, the Warriors battled on and got their reward at 39:24 when Ryan Marsh added a second with a composed effort following a clean assist from Jamie Thurston.
This tied the game at 2–2 and gave Leeds real momentum heading into the final frame.
Unfortunately, the third period belonged to Blackburn. The hosts regained the lead and added a late insurance goal to seal the result, as Leeds struggled to regain their rhythm.
A late minor penalty stalled the Warriors’ comeback hopes and limited their offensive push in the dying minutes.
Despite the loss, Joe Quinn stood tall in net with 57 saves from 61 shots, and the team showed strong battling spirit.
With positives to take — including Barwick and Marsh finding the scoresheet — Leeds Warriors 2 will aim to bounce back stronger in their next game.
