Warriors² suffer defeat in Sheffield

On Saturday 21st March 2026 our Warriors 2 team travelled to Ice Sheffield to take on the Ice Tigers B in this IHSC Cup fixture.

This was the Warriors second fixture in the IHSC Cup and the return fixture against the Ice Tigers.

The two teams met back in Leeds on 17th January 2026 when the Warriors lost 2-3.

That was an extremely close game and the Warriors were aware of how tough this game was likely to be, especially on away ice.

1st period

The Ice Tigers made a fast start, opening the scoring at 1:22 through #45 with an unassisted goal.

They extended their lead at 6:54, as #26 finished a well-worked play - assisted by #58 and #52.

The Warriors struggled to contain the Ice Tigers early pressure and just before the break #26 struck again at 19:11, once more assisted by #58 and #52.

The Ice Tigers took a commanding 3–0 lead into the first intermission, having controlled much of the period.

Ice Tigers 3-0 Warriors

2nd period

Facing an uphill climb to get back into the game, the team needed to respond early in the second period - and with only 11 seconds having elapsed in the period, Captain Howard Barwick got the Warriors on the board - the assist coming from Matt Jubb.

At 3-1 the Warriors had renewed hope.

Both teams battled it out for the next 10 minutes before the Ice Tigers regained control at 30:25, with a 4th goal (#58 assisted by #52).

The Warriors continued to battle and found a 2nd goal at 31:54, with Chris Hamilton scoring from a Jamie Thurston assist to reduce the deficit to 4-2.

At just over the half-way point the Warriors were still in this game. But, just over a minute later the Ice Tigers took full control of the game again as #72 made it 5–2 at 32:56.

Despite a good performance from the Warriors, the period ended 2-2 - with the Ice Tigers maintaining their 3 goal advantage heading into the final period.

Ice Tigers 5-2 Warriors

3rd period

The third period saw fewer clear chances, with both teams tightening up defensively.

The Ice Tigers were handed a two-minute ‘cross-checking’ penalty at 42:56, but the Warriors were unable to capitalise on the power-play opportunity.

The period was largely a stalemate as both teams traded chances at either end.

But late in the game, the Warriors took a ‘too many men’ penalty at 54:48, which proved costly - the Ice Tigers converted on the subsequent power-play at 55:08, with #52 finishing a move assisted by #16 and #58.

At 6-2 and with less than 5 minutes to play, that goal sealed the result and ended any hopes of a Warriors comeback.

Final score:

Ice Tigers 6-2 Warriors

The Warriors showed great resilience to get on the scoresheet twice, but the Ice Tigers’ strong start and efficient finishing - particularly from the repeated combination play involving #52 and #58 - proved decisive.
