Warriors³ reeled in by the Trawlers

On Sunday 22nd March 2026, our development team travelled to Grimsby to take on the Trawlers for a BOTB Cup fixture.

This was our Warriors³ team’s 5th game in the Bottom of the Barrel (BOTB) Cup and the return fixture against Grimsby Trawlers, having lost the home fixture 2-6 on 22nd November 2025.

Still searching for their first victory of the campaign, they knew it would be a tough challenge as the Trawlers are one of the strong contenders in this competition.

The Warriors iced two debutants for this one - Jake Croft and Andy Palfreyman - welcome aboard guys.

Dressed players:

Kieran High (NM), Adam Szabo, Andy Palfreyman, Ash Davies, Brendan Hullah, Charlie Tang, Connor Brocklebank, Freddy Monk, Philip Bradley, Phil Pearce, Stella Giwisser, Heather McCarten, Jake Croft, Jonjo Marshall, Josh Moss and Zach Huntley.

1st period:

The Trawlers opened the scoring early at 0:28, taking a quick lead through #39, assisted by #49.

This left the Warriors temporarily shell-shocked, but they were able to settle into the game soon after.

The Warriors were mounting offensives but struggled to break down the Trawlers’ defence.

At 10:39, the hosts’ #69 took a a 2 minute minor penalty for holding, but the Warriors still could not take advantage.

Despite creating some pressure, the Warriors couldn’t find an equaliser before the break.

The period ended 1–0 to the Trawlers, with the hosts holding on to that early lead.

Trawlers 1-0 Warriors

2nd period:

The Warriors responded well in the second period and found a deserved equaliser at 23:02. Defenceman Phil Pearce picked up the puck at the point and unleashed a shot that the goalie couldn’t handle. 1-1.

However, the Trawlers quickly regained the momentum. At 28:10, they restored their lead at 2-1 through #97.

The Warriors continued to battle and created chances of their own. At 30:39, Zach Huntley scored his first goal for the club and the equalising goal to make it 2-2 - assisted by Ash Davies.

A great period for the Warriors, having won it 1-2. Game on.

Trawlers 2-2 Warriors

3rd period:

At 2-2 it was all to play for!

Could the Warriors make the most of the momentum they had built or would the Trawlers storm back into the game?

Unfortunately, it was the latter - with the Trawlers scoring at 41:56 and 47:15 to pull away from the Warriors at 4-2.

The Warriors did their very best to reduce the deficit but couldn’t break through and with legs tiring towards the end of the period, the Trawlers capitalised - making it 5-2 at 56:37 to effectively end the game as a contest.

At 59:24 the Trawlers took both a roughing penalty and a misconduct penalty but they managed to stand firm for the final 36 seconds, meaning it ended 5-2 to Trawlers.

Final score:

Trawlers 5-2 Warriors
