Warriors 3 get flattened by the Bombers
On Saturday, 17th May 2025, our development team travelled to Ice Sheffield to take on the Beighton Bombers in a challenge game.
Following a stretch of winning performances, the Warriors were looking to keep the momentum going against a Bombers side they were facing for the first time. Kieran High got the start in goal, with Rory Butcher taking over midway through the match.
Dressed players:
Rory Butcher (NM), Kieran High (NM), Adam Szabo, Andis Jansons, Brendan Hullah, Charlie Tang, Connor Brocklebank, Craig Baker, Dean Cadman, Freddy Monk, Gary Clough, Jared Weldon, Jonjo Marshall, Paul Eaglestone, Phil Bradley, Sam Stokes, Simon Davis, Stella Giwisser and Tomasz Molenda.
1st period
The Bombers came out of the gates quickly, applying pressure and pinning Leeds in their own zone. High made several early saves to keep the game level, but Beighton eventually found the breakthrough and added a second before the break. Leeds managed a few promising counterattacks, but couldn’t find the net, heading into the intermission down 2–0 and with plenty of work to do.
Bombers 2 Warriors 0
2nd period
The Warriors responded well in the second period. A few minutes in, Jared Weldon got Leeds on the board with an unassisted goal, cutting the lead to 2–1. The Bombers hit back not long after to make it 3–1, but Tomsaz Molenda struck midway through the frame, assisted by Andis Jansons, to bring the Warriors back within one. Leeds were very much in the contest at that point, but two quick goals from the Bombers late in the period pushed the score to 5–2. Rory Butcher came into net for the second half of the game as Leeds looked to claw back into the game.
Bombers 5 Warriors 2
3rd period
Leeds kept pressing in the third and were rewarded when Tomsaz Molenda grabbed his second to make it 5–3. However the Bombers answered back with another burst of goals, extending their lead and making a comeback increasingly unlikely. Weldon hit his second of the game at 53:27 to take the score to 7–4, but two more late goals from Beighton put the game to bed. Despite the loss, Leeds continued to battle until the final buzzer.
Final score :
Bombers 9 Warriors 4
The final scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story. The Warriors fought hard from start to finish against a Beighton squad that iced several players who were clearly operating above development level. Despite the result, the Warriors showed a lot of determination and will take plenty from the experience as they continue their season.
Points scorers:
Tomasz Molenda 2+0
Jared Weldon 2+0
Andis Jansons 0+1
Jared Weldon
Player of the game
Simon Davis
Coach’s player of the game
Player of the game, as selected by the Bombers, went to Jared Weldon - and the Warriors helmet was awarded to defenceman Simon Davis for a solid performance at the back. Well done guys!
