Warriors Dev shoot down the Hawks

On Saturday 26th July 2025, our development team welcomed the Hamilton Hawks to Leeds for a challenge game.

Our development team closed out their season in style with a hard-fought 6–3 victory over the visiting Hamilton Hawks, who made the long 4-hour trip from near Glasgow to Planet Ice, Leeds.

Dressed players:

Kieran High (NM), Andis Jansons, Dale Bedford, Freddy Monk, Gary Clough, Heather McCarten, Jared Weldon, Jonjo Marshall, Phil Pearce, Phi Bradley, Simon Davis, Stella Giwisser, Tomasz Molenda, Zach Huntley and Craig Baker.


First period:

The Warriors wasted no time setting the tone, with Jonjo Marshall opening the scoring at 03:56, finishing a play set-up by Andis Jansons. Just under five minutes later, Jansons took matters into his own hands, as he went solo - slotting home an unassisted goal at 08:41 to double the home side’s lead.

The Hawks responded with a goal from Donaldson at 10:49, trimming the deficit and keeping things competitive.

Second period:

The middle frame saw the Warriors extend their lead thanks to relentless pressure and some great link-up play. At 36:48, Jansons grabbed his second of the game, with assists coming from Heather McCarten and the ever-involved Marshall.

Moments later, at 38:57, Stella Giwisser etched her name onto the scoresheet with her first-ever goal for the Warriors - a memorable moment for her and the team alike. After great work from Jansons - who was able to get the shot away, Giwisser was there to pounce on the rebound.

Third period:

The final period began with more cause for celebration, as Simon Davis netted his first goal for the Warriors at 41:51, with the assists coming from Phil Pearce and Tomasz Molenda.

At 52:25, Jansons capped off an impressive performance with his hat-trick goal, once again going solo to make it 6–1.

But the Hawks refused to fold, showing grit and determination as they pulled back two late goals to close the gap and finish the game with heads held high.

A satisfying night for both Stella Giwisser and Simon Davis as they bagged their first ever Warriors goals!

This final outing felt like more than just a win - it was finishing the 2024-5 season on a high.

Having played more games this season than in any previous year, the team has relished the opportunity to challenge other sides. These matches have helped them track their development as players and enjoy the thrill of competition.

Of the 13 games they have played this season, the team has won 7, lost 5 and drawn 1, scoring 69 goals along the way.
