Warriors Dev beaten by Peterborough

On Saturday 19th July 2025, our development team welcomed their name-sakes from Peterborough for a challenge match.

This was our development team’s second outing in a run of three consecutive weekend fixtures, having taken on the Grimsby Trawlers last Saturday and with a clash against the Hamilton Hawks coming up next weekend.

It’s a busy period for the squad, and this game offered another important step in their on-going development.

On this occasion, our Warriors development side hosted their name-sakes from Peterborough in a much-anticipated challenge game.

With both regular development net-minders unavailable for this fixture, Joe Quinn - who has previously suited up in goal for both our second and first teams - stepped in between the pipes.

The game promised a valuable test for the team, and it delivered a fast-paced, hard-fought contest - albeit one that ultimately saw Peterborough take the honours.

Dressed players:

Joe Quinn (NM), Adam Szabo, Ash Davies, Connor Brocklebank, Gary Clough, Heather McCarten, Jared Weldon, Jonjo Marshall, Josh Moss, Paul Eaglestone, Phil Pearce, Simon Davis, Stella Giwisser, Tomasz Molenda, Zach Huntley, Craig Baker and Charlie Tang.

Game Summary:

The game got off to a tough start for Leeds, with Peterborough capitalising early to open the scoring at 03:47 in the first period.

Despite the setback, Leeds dug in and began to find their rhythm, stringing together some neat passages of play and putting pressure on the visitors’ defence.

The second period, however, proved decisive. Peterborough struck twice in quick succession, with goals coming at 31:35 and 34:39, extending their lead to 0–3 and dealing a heavy blow to Leeds' come-back hopes. But there was a glimmer of life late in the period.

At 37:49, Peterborough were penalised for charging, handing Leeds a powerplay opportunity. With a face-off in the offensive zone, the puck was worked back to the blue line where Phil Pearce - stepping up from the point - unleashed a low, driven shot. It slipped under the visiting goalie’s pads and into the net at 38:18.

The goal, Pearce’s first for Leeds Warriors, was a well-deserved moment of celebration and gave the home crowd something to cheer about as the period closed at 1–3.

The third period began evenly, with both sides creating chances and showing strong defensive organisation. Leeds matched Peterborough stride for stride through the first ten minutes, but fatigue began to tell. The visitors took advantage, adding three more goals in a seven-minute spell (51:33, 52:29, 54:48) to put the result beyond doubt.

While the final score-line of 1–6 wasn’t what Leeds had hoped for, there were positives to take from the game - not least Pearce's milestone goal and the team’s resilience in the face of a well-drilled opponent. The game provided valuable experience for the development squad and highlighted areas to build on as this busy run of games continues.
