Warriors 1 do the double over Knights
On Saturday 26th April 2025 our first team welcomed the Hull Knights to Planet Ice for the return fixture in the IHSC Cup.
Having beaten tonight’s opponents 2-7 away from home, the Warriors were confident going into the game. But, the team had many significant players missing which weakened the team.
Absent players: Andy Giles, Tyler Heming, Tom Mallon, Jordan Batty, Matthew Gatenby, Niku Ghaemi, Jamie Farrar, Chris Norman, Joe Quinn and Sam Cromack.
As a result, the Warriors were expecting a tough contest. Thankfully, they were able to ice three full lines.
Dressed players:
Lewis Pickering (NM), Chris Giles (C), Mitch White, Dylan Noonan, Chris Scampton, Callum Greenhalgh, Ellen Gallimore, Niks Kamaldins, Adam Gibbons, Chris Blaschko, Will Gibbons, Andrew Hughes, Simon Morrow, Harvey Galloway, Adam Tomlinson and Dzintars Jonuss.
1st period
The Warriors came out flying in the first period. With 6:58 on the clock, Andrew Hughes opened the scoring with a powerful one-timer, assisted by Ellen Gallimore and Simon Morrow.
Just two minutes later, Chris Scampton doubled the lead at 8:58, finishing off a set-up from Dylan Noonan.
Noonan thought he had scored himself shortly afterward, but despite appeals, the officials failed to recognise the puck had crossed the line.
The Warriors kept up the pressure, and Niks Kamaldins added two quick goals at 10:01 and 10:55, with assists from Mitch White, Chris Blaschko, and Hughes.
This explosive first period ended with Leeds firmly in control, leading 4-0.

2nd period
The second period saw the Warriors continue their onslaught. At 29:20, Simon Morrow extended the lead to 5-0, with Hughes picking up another assist.
Shortly after, the first-line forwards linked up beautifully, with Noonan finishing off a move set up by White and Scampton at 33:49 to make it 6-0.
The Warriors capped off the second period with a seventh goal, as White converted from a Blaschko assist at 38:18.
Warriors 7 Knights 0
3rd period
Heading into the third period with a commanding lead, the Warriors eased off slightly, allowing the Knights to find a foothold.
Hull opened their account at 44:36 and added a second goal at 49:44, reducing the deficit to 7-2.
Eager to reassert control and close the game strongly, the Warriors struck once more.
With less than five minutes remaining, Chris Giles carried the puck into the offensive zone, dropping it to Noonan, who fired a hard pass toward White. With a quick touch from Scampton, White managed to settle the puck and score the Warriors’ eighth and final goal of the game, sealing an emphatic 8-2 victory (timed at 56:26).
Final score :
Warriors 8 Knights 2
Points scorers:

Dylan Noonan 1+2
Niks Kamaldins 2+0

Given the number of absentees, this was a very satisfying victory for the Warriors. The team crucially needed the points as they head into two important cup games in May.
A big thank you to the Knights for providing another highly competitive match - the final score-line didn’t fully reflect just how evenly contested the game was throughout.
Lewis Pickering
Player of the game
Lewis Pickering
Captain’s player of the game
When it came to the post-game awards, it was a clean sweep for our netminder Lewis Pickering, who was named Player of the Game by the Knights and also received the Captain’s Helmet. The outcome could have been very different without Lewis’s outstanding performance between the pipes.
Honourable mentions go to Adam Tomlinson, who stepped up from Warriors 2 and delivered a solid performance. Netminder-turned-skater Andrew Hughes was a huge asset on the ice, opening the scoring and finishing with an impressive 1+2 haul. A big shout-out also to Chris Scampton, who thrived on the top line and matched Hughes’ contribution with a strong 1+2 of his own.
